When building a life somewhere new also means navigating loneliness, cultural differences, family expectations, identity, and the question of where you truly belong.
Moving abroad can open the door to new opportunities, but it can also change your relationship with yourself, your family, and the idea of home. You may be building a life you're proud of while still feeling lonely, disconnected, or caught somewhere between the culture you came from and the one you're trying to belong to.
You might feel pressure to succeed because of everything it took to get here, guilt about being away from family, or find yourself becoming a different version of yourself depending on where you are and who you're with. Sometimes even going “home” can feel complicated familiar, but no longer quite the same.
In therapy, we can make space for those contradictions. Together, we can explore questions around identity, belonging, relationships, family and cultural expectations, loneliness, and the emotional experience of building a life away from home without assuming that you have to choose between different parts of who you are.
An initial consultation can help clarify the best next step.
